cosmicut 3.1 dropped
CosmiCut 3.1 adds more transitions, adjustable timing and direction, and clip rotation.
CosmiCut v3.1 is now available for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro!
CosmiCut 3.0 was about getting more kinds of 3D video into and out of the app. Version 3.1 is about what happens in the middle: providing more options for transitions and fixing the clip you definitely did not record sideways (I mean, you did — but now know has to know!).
There are two big additions in this update: a much more useful transition picker and clip rotation.
More ways to get from clip A to clip B
CosmiCut’s transition picker now includes:
- Cross Dissolve
- Dip to Black
- Wipe
- Push
Cross Dissolve is available to everyone. Dip to Black, Wipe, and Push are part of CosmiCut’s premium features.
The new transitions are not just a list of presets, either. You can adjust their timing, and Wipe and Push can travel left, right, up, or down. A slow push can feel like the camera is drifting into the next moment. A very fast wipe can feel like somebody got a little too excited about local television graphics. But maybe that’s exactly what you want (plus it does look kinda cool in 3D…)
Transitions also show up directly on the timeline, so you can jump back into a transition, tweak it, and preview the change without digging through a tiny maze of controls.
You can finally rotate clips
The Clip Editor now has Rotate Left and Rotate Right controls. Each tap turns the selected clip by 90 degrees, and the result carries through the timeline thumbnail, live preview, and final export.
This sounds extremely normal because every video editor has rotation. But, you know, I only just got around to adding it. XD
CosmiCut needs the rotated dimensions while it builds the timeline. The preview needs to apply the same turn without stretching the frame into modern art. Then the export pipeline has to repeat that result for both ordinary and spatial video. Still, not too bad and now it’s in the box of CosmiCut tools!
Clip rotation is another premium feature, available with a CosmiCut subscription or CosmiCut Unlock.
A small release with a suspicious amount of plumbing
So 3.1 also includes a bunch of work underneath the new controls: transition persistence, timeline overlap handling, animated previews, rotation-aware sizing, and the usual pile of bug fixes and performance improvements.
The visible result is simple, which is the whole point. Pick a transition. Choose how long it should last. Give it a direction when that makes sense. Rotate the clip that arrived with a confused sense of gravity. Keep editing.
CosmiCut v3.1 is on the App Store now. As always, if you find something weird, please let me know. Weird remains an extremely productive roadmap.
